Re: treadmill damages buildings?
Mon, November 12, 2007 - 6:33 AMI've often wondered that but I don't have any hard facts on the issue. It seems that damage would be less likely if you were closer to the foundation of the building. Just how old of a building is it? Also, there is a tendency to run a bit harder (more pounding/harder foot strike)on a treadmill, especially with speedwork.

Re: treadmill damages buildings?
Mon, November 12, 2007 - 6:59 AMWhat's the construction of the building? Are you on wood or concrete? If you're on the first floor of a concrete building I wouldn't worry about it. -

Re: treadmill damages buildings?
Thu, November 15, 2007 - 10:12 PMalternatively any means of spreading the load over a wood-framed floor: put it on a bigger piece of plywood, etc. Shouldn't really be that different than any other heavy object as long as the impact is diffused.

Tue, May 20, 2008 - 8:07 AMOne of those spongy mat things might absorb a *little* shock...I have one under my elliptical and it seems to help.
